Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks, softened
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour spooned and leveled

Equipment

  • 1 large baking sheet

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until creamy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Mix in the flour until the dough comes together and no dry flour remains.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-tablespoon balls.
  6. Place the balls about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet and flatten each ball slightly. Bake in batches if needed, keeping the remaining dough at room temperature.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are set and lightly golden.
  8. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  9. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For tender cookies, spoon and level the flour rather than packing it into the measuring cup. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 2 months. For a dairy-free variation, use plant-based butter sticks.
