Brown Sugar Ham Glaze

Brown sugar ham glaze simmers on the stovetop until smooth, combining light brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, and warm ground cloves. Brush it over ham during the final 20–30 minutes of baking at 325°F, reapplying once for a glossy finish.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 0.25 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 0.25 tsp ground cloves

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, and ground cloves.
  3. Cook, stirring, for 3–5 minutes, until the sugar dissolves and the glaze is smooth.
  4. Remove from the heat.
  5. Brush the glaze over a ham during its final 20–30 minutes of baking at 325°F.
  6. Reapply the glaze once.

Notes

For the smoothest glaze, stir continuously as it cooks and brush it onto the ham in two applications. Refrigerate leftover glaze in a covered container for up to 1 week; it can be frozen. For a vegan variation, use plant-based butter and maple syrup in place of the butter and honey.
