Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon chopped
  • 4 can (14.5 oz) green beans cut, drained
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • 1 9x13-inch baking dish
  • 1 12-inch skillet
  • 1 small saucepan

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  3. Cook the chopped bacon in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until crisp.
  4. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate and drain the skillet.
  5. Spread the drained green beans in the baking dish.
  6. Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
  7. Stir in the packed light brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper until the sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.
  8. Pour the sauce over the green beans and toss gently to coat.
  9. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until bubbling around the edges.
  10. Sprinkle the bacon over the beans and bake for 5 minutes more.
  11. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For crisp bacon, drain it well before adding it to the beans. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days; freezing is not recommended. For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free tamari in place of soy sauce.
